Dr. Greta Defeyter has interests in object function from a developmental point of view.

Funded by both the ESRC and the British Academy, her work has shown that there is a conceptual shift in the structure of the child's concept of artifact function between the ages 5 and 7, and that this conceptual shift has a striking effect on problem-solving performance. Projects include studies relating to Theory of Mind, the development of recognition memory, property ownership, young children's susceptibility to functional fixedness and young children's reasoning about artifact origins, functions and identity.
